Background Check Information

Background checks can take anywhere from 30 mins to 4 business days.

Currently the NV DPS Background check system is taking aprox 24hrs for us to process a background check.

DPS stops taking calls at 3:30pm local time. We spend 2-3 hours dialing each morning to get into a hold queue each day. Once in the queue it takes between 3-5 hours for DPS to answer the call for us to process a background heck.

Depending on the time that we finally get thru to get background checks processed will depend if we will call you that day or the next to set a time to come pickup your item.

When you come in to fill out the 4473 so we can process your background check, we will need a copy of your Drivers License, State ID, and Nevada CCW if you have one.

Once you have filled out the 4473, at that point we will be done and you will have to come back once the background check is complete. We will call you to set a new time for you to come down after your background check has been completed.

If we have not called you back then your background check has not be processed yet. DO NOT come back to pickup until we have called and set a time for you to come back for your pickup.

If you have a Nevada CCW, no background check is required and you can pick up your non-NFA item the same day if you have a valid copy of your CCW with you. If you do not have your CCW with you then a background check must be completed and there will be a $25 background check fee due to the state for processing. If you go get your CCW and bring it back then we can process your transaction without the background check.

Common Transfer Questions

If you have questions about the transfer process please read below to see if your question has been answered.

As soon as the firearm(s) are received we will contact you to set up a day/time for pickup. You will complete a background check and then have the firearm(s) transferred over to you.

We CAN NOT process your background check until the firearm(s) have arrived! We have to process the firearm(s) into our system prior to being able to process a background check!

Checking Form 4 Status

How to check the status of your Form 4 with the ATF NFA Branch

If you are wondering about the status of your Form 4 that was submitted, please use the following steps to find out the current status:

1. Get the copy of the Form 4 that was emailed to you from DocuSign or SilencerShop.

2. Call the ATF NFA Branch at 304-616-4500

3. Select option 1 to find out the status of your form 4. (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR FORM 4 AS YOU WILL NEED INFORMATION FROM THE FORM 4 TO CHECK THE STATUS)

4. Once they answer, they will ask for your name and phone number. Give them that information and tell them you would like to check the status of your Form 4 submission.

5. Give them the Serial number of your NFA item which is on the Form 4, and tell them its being transferred from Nevada Firearms & Training to (your Name if you did not use a trust, or the name of your trust if you used a trust)

6. They will give you one of a few different answers:

  • Your application is still pending. (This means they are still processing the application and it hasn't been approved or denied yet)

  • Your application has been approved. If it has been approved they will tell you the approval date. If it has been more than 60 days since the approval date call us and let us know that the Form 4 was approved and the date and we will check to see if we have gotten it back yet. Sometime it takes up to 60 days for us to receive the Form 4 after approval. When we do get it back we will call to let you know we have gotten it and schedule a time to have you come pick up your Form 4 and NFA item.

  • Your application was denied. If they tell you it was denied then please ask if they know the denial reason, and ask to speak to the examiner to discuss the issue to see if it can be corrected.

Instead of calling us for status checks please contact the NFA branch for status as the only thing we can do is call them and ask the same questions you will.

If you have any further questions regarding Form 4 processing please email us and we will help you with your question.
